Beirut Mutations, photomontage from scanned Film photographs, 60 x 40 cm, Mounted on Dibond, Aluminium Frames, Lebanon, 2015.
For the past year, the city of Beirut has been changing rapidly. Old buildings are being destroyed and replaced by high rise ones, the city has become a huge construction site. With the destruction of old buildings, Beirut is losing its character and because there is no legislation for urban development, the cityscape is filled with chaotic and disorganized constructions. Fattouh assembled clashing buildings and created absurd panoramas, she chooses to create images that suits her perception of a city that is consuming itself.
